Who It’s For

Prozdor的学生是来自大纽约地区的8到12年级学生, including all five boroughs, Westchester, Long Island, Northern and Central New Jersey, and Connecticut. Students of all Jewish backgrounds are welcome.

What Students Learn

ELEMENTS OF THE PROGRAM

Beit midrash: Beit midrash literally means “house of study,，但它也意味着一种学习哲学:学生们一起工作, with direct access to texts, in a space of intimacy, trust, and openness. At Prozdor, the beit midrash 节目的核心是一个充满了小群学生参与动画的声音的空间吗, self-motivated Torah learning, under the guidance of caring and inspiring teachers. Drawing on students’ interests and passions, 教师开发学习单元，让学生接触各种主题和方法. Instead of homework or tests, students share their knowledge with each other, developing both as students and as teachers.

Study units fall into four categories, 每一种都涉及不同的方法来接近思想, texts, and conversations:

1. In-Depth Hebrew Bible Study (e.g., feminism in Ruth and Esther; the outsiders in the Book of Genesis)
2. Historical Perspectives (e.g., Jewish migrations, New York in Jewish history)
3. Getting to Know the Talmud (e.g., Bava Metzia: the ethics of lost and found; Sanhedrin: a just death?)
4. Themes in Jewish Thought (e.g., chosenness; science and spirituality)

Community timeProzdor的每一天都以半小时的活动和坦诚的交谈开始，让所有的学生和教师聚在一起, building the culture of the school. Topics might include current events, Jewish identity, experiences of antisemitism, skills for the synagogue, and other matters relevant to our whole community.

Schedule

9:30 a.m.–10:00 a.m.: Community Time

10:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m.: Beit Midrash

11:30 a.m.–Noon: Bagel Break

Noon–1:30 p.m.: Hebrew

Why Prozdor?
